This project intended to reestablish the Eugene City Hall as a forum for discussion, and a symbol of local government, for the people, by the people. While the role of municipal buildings in the 21st century is changing, the new Eugene City Hall acknowledges the importance of citizens’ access to regulatory bodies. The building provides a clear framework for functions of government, with a large, multi-purpose assembly hall supplemented by accessible offices and work areas. Key to the design was the importance of wood structure in Oregon architecture, and transparency of government function through traditional clarity of architectural wayfinding.
